DFP Marine Mechanic Foreman

Derecktor is seeking an experienced Marine Mechanic Foreman to lead and work alongside the marine mechanical team at our Fort Pierce, Florida shipyard. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for supervising the department while performing the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of marine propulsion systems, mechanical equipment, and vessel machinery.

The ideal candidate is an experienced marine mechanic with strong technical knowledge of propulsion systems and heavy mechanical repairs, as well as the leadership skills to coordinate personnel, prioritize work, maintain quality standards, and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

These shall include, but not necessarily be limited to the following:

• Supervise, schedule, and coordinate the daily activities of the Marine Mechanic department.
• Lead by example by performing hands-on marine mechanical repairs and assisting the crew as needed.
• Assign work based on project priorities, manpower, and production schedules to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
• Train, mentor, and develop mechanics and apprentices while monitoring employee performance, productivity, attendance, and workmanship.
• Review employee timecards for accuracy.
• Coordinate with Production Managers, Project Managers, other department foremen, subcontractors, and vendors to support project schedules and customer requirements.
• Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on marine mechanical systems and equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical failures and determine appropriate repair methods.
• Change oil, filters, lubricants, and grease machinery and equipment.
• Repair and replace brakes, fuel pumps, water pumps, fuel lines, belts, filters, bearings, steering gears, and other mechanical components.
• Remove, repair, install, and align propellers, shafts, rudders, stabilizers, bow thrusters, steering components, and other propulsion system equipment.
• Remove and reinstall engines, generators, transmissions, hydraulic components, and other large mechanical assemblies.
• Perform minor hydraulic repairs, fabricate hydraulic hoses, rebuild hydraulic cylinders, and identify proper hose sizes, fittings, seals, and related components.
• Tune gasoline engines and perform preventive maintenance on marine engines and machinery.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, wiring schematics, equipment manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
• Utilize electronic diagnostic and testing equipment to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.
• Perform maintenance welding, including tack welding and the safe operation of welding equipment.
• Coordinate and safely perform rigging operations involving heavy mechanical equipment and propulsion components.
• Inspect completed work to ensure it meets Derecktor quality standards, manufacturer specifications, and customer expectations.
• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and established safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while identifying and correcting unsafe conditions or work practices.
• Identify tooling, equipment, material, and manpower needs to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
• Maintain accurate repair records and communicate project status, issues, and resource needs to management.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
