Job Description

We’re seeking the right team member who has the passion for building premium offshore fishing boats. This team member will grind, sand, clean or polish objects and parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing using hand and power tools. They will drill holes in molded fiberglass decks, hulls and small parts. Measure and mark decks, hulls and small parts to ensure quality standards are met. This team member will verify quality by inspecting the completed parts. This person will work with equipment, work tables, chemicals, power tools and hand tools. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform grinding, sanding, trimming, and finishing of fiberglass boat components including hulls, decks, and small parts.
  • Use hand tools, pneumatic tools, and power tools (e.g., grinders, sanders, buffers) to remove imperfections and shape parts to specifications.
  • Drill holes and cut openings in fiberglass parts according to templates, blueprints, or specifications.
  • Measure and mark surfaces to ensure precise cuts and hole placements that meet quality and engineering standards.
  • Inspect surfaces and finished parts for defects such as air pockets, voids, uneven surfaces, or cracks.
  • Apply fillers and sealants as needed to repair minor defects or prep surfaces for paint or gel coat application.
  • Clean parts and work area using solvents, rags, and equipment to maintain a safe and organized environment.
  • Work from verbal instructions, production schedules, blueprints, and drawings with minimal supervision.
  • Follow proper safety protocols, wear required PPE, and handle chemicals and materials according to OSHA and company guidelines.
  • Communicate with supervisors and team members regarding part quality, needed repairs, or process improvements.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of finishing supplies and tools.
  • Support other production tasks as required in the boat building process to meet deadlines and team goals.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Ability to use power tools, hand tools and a tape measure 
  • Ability to work in a fiberglass dust environment that is fast paced and noisy

 Physical Requirements: 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements include eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, protective suits, dusts masks and respirators.
  • The employee is regularly required to be on their feet;  occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Constant use of hands/hand tools for assembly, fine manipulation, inspecting parts, and/or machine operating.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Employees must be able to work a 10-hour shift or more in one workday, including planned and unplanned overtime.
  • Exhibits ability to work cautiously but efficiently in potentially hazardous conditions.

 Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment can be moderate to loud and is non-climate controlled.
