Summary: The Composite Process Engineer is responsible for the development, optimization, and control of laminate structures and composite manufacturing processes across all yacht models. This role serves as the technical authority for laminate specifications, material selection, and process changes, ensuring structural integrity, quality consistency, and production efficiency. Responsibilities: Laminate Engineering & Structural Development

• Develop, analyze, and maintain laminate schedules for hulls, decks, and composite components.
• Evaluate laminate structures for strength, weight, durability, and manufacturability.
• Approve and implement laminate changes driven by design updates, material substitutions, or process improvements.
• Ensure laminate specifications meet engineering, regulatory, and company performance standards.
• Understanding of Marine Building Standards such as: ISO, ABS, & DNV

Process Engineering & Optimization

• Design and optimize composite manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and quality.
• Lead composite kitting strategy, material utilization optimization, and waste reduction initiatives.
• Analyze production data to identify trends, defects, or inefficiencies related to laminates and composites.
• Support implementation of new materials, resins, fabrics, cores, or manufacturing methods.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Serve as the primary technical resource for laminate-related questions from Production, Laminates, and Quality teams.
• Collaborate with Design Engineering on new models, modifications, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support Quality and Warranty teams by investigating laminate-related defects or failures and recommending corrective actions.

Documentation, Systems & Data Management

• Create, revise, and control laminate specifications, drawings, and documentation.
• Utilize CAD software (AutoCAD / Autodesk) to support laminate layouts and engineering documentation.
• Maintain engineering change documentation and ensure revisions are communicated and implemented accurately.
• Use Excel and engineering tools to perform calculations, track changes, and support decision-making.

Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

• Ensure composite processes comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Promote best practices related to fiberglass handling, dust control, resin usage, and PPE compliance.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to composite materials, tooling, and processes.

Requirements:

• Advanced understanding of composite materials, laminate theory, and marine structures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills related to composite performance and manufacturing.
• Ability to balance engineering requirements with production realities.
• Strong communication skills and ability to influence cross-functional teams.
• A four year degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials, Marine, or related field) OR equivalent experience in composite engineering and manufacturing.
• Experience in composite manufacturing, laminate development, or marine engineering.

Preferred

• Marine composite engineering experience.
• Experience with resin infusion, light resin transfer molding, or advanced composite processes.
• Familiarity with classification society or regulatory requirements related to marine structures.
• Experience supporting new model development and production launches.

Description: Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Combination of office and production floor environments.
• Periodic exposure to composite materials, fiberglass dust, and production operations.
• Ability to walk production areas and inspect laminate processes.
