Senior Marine Electrical Engineer

Fort Lauderdale, FloridaPosted 1h ago$115,000 – $135,000Employer Stated

About this role

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Marine Electrical Engineer to lead our engineering team of two engineers and be the technical engineering authority behind the systems TESS designs and builds. You will own the engineering on every project, from concept and class approval through as-built documentation, while mentoring and directing the work of your team.

This is a role for an engineer who wants to build on a proven operation, not start over. You will take technical direction from our Technical Director, report to and work to the production schedule set by our Production Manager, and use your experience to lead and develop your engineers so the team delivers right first time.

What You Will Do

Engineering & design

·       Lead and produce EPLAN Electric P8 drawing sets for main switchboards, AMCS, fire detection systems, motor/pump controls and specialty products (e.g. smart shore power boxes, alarm paging/SMS interfaces)

·       Produce supporting AutoCAD drawings, one-line diagrams and panel/enclosure layouts

·       Perform AC/DC load analysis, short-circuit calculations, breaker selection and selectivity/trip-curve studies

·       Engineer systems for vessels built to US and European standards: 400V/50Hz and 480V/60Hz distribution, 230V/120V hotel loads, shore power and frequency conversion, mixed IEC/NEC component selection

·       Deliver complete final drawing and documentation packages to owners, captains and shipyards

Classification & compliance

·       Prepare and submit drawings and documentation to Classification Societies (ABS, Lloyd's Register, DNV, BV, RINA) and respond technically to surveyor comments through to approval

·       Apply class rules, SOLAS, MCA/Red Ensign Large Yacht Code, IEC 60092 and USCG/ABYC requirements as applicable to each vessel

Team leadership

·       Lead, assign and check the work of two engineers within the production schedule

·       Sign off all drawings produced by the engineering team before release

·       Review calculations and documentation for accuracy and class compliance

·       Train, coach and develop your two engineers

·       Maintain TESS drawing standards, EPLAN libraries, macros and version control, and recommend improvements to the Technical Director

Technical support, research & product development

·       Be the engineering support for TESS systems in the field: assist service technicians with troubleshooting, VFD, PLC and meter setup, and wiring of new or replacement equipment

·       Research and qualify replacements for obsolete components in legacy AMCS, PMS and switchboard systems

·       Carry out technical research and parts development tasks as directed by the Technical Director

·       Support sales with material lists, one-lines and technical input for quotations

·       Attend shipyards and vessels for surveys, fact-finding, factory acceptance, installation support and commissioning

What You Bring

Required

·       Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or marine/electrical engineering equivalent)

·       8+ years of electrical engineering experience, with at least 5 years in marine: yachts, ships, offshore or naval

·       Proficiency in AutoCAD. EPLAN Electric P8 experience strongly preferred; TESS provides full EPLAN training (training agreement applies)

·       Proven experience preparing class submittals and securing approval with at least one IACS Classification Society

·       Working knowledge of both IEC/European and US electrical systems as installed onboard vessels

·       Experience leading, checking and mentoring other engineers or designers

·       Clear written and spoken English; able to communicate with captains, surveyors, shipyards and technicians

·       Valid driver's license; able to pass background check and drug screen

·       Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship (TESS is unable to sponsor visas)

Preferred

·       Superyacht new-build or refit experience

·       Main switchboard, power management (DEIF, ComAp, CRE) or AMCS experience (Rhodium, Praxis or similar)

·       PLC/HMI programming

·       Shore power and frequency converter systems

·       Florida PE or European chartered/registered engineer status

·       Additional languages (Spanish, Dutch, Italian)

Who Will Succeed Here

·       A team player who leads by example: hands-on, approachable and dependable

·       Someone who respects a proven way of working, takes direction well and improves things through agreement

·       An engineer who enjoys variety: design in the morning, a vessel or shipyard in the afternoon

·       Someone who takes ownership of accuracy, because a drawing error becomes a problem on a yacht
