The Role:
The Senior Business Intelligence and Power Platform Developer is an advanced, hands-on technical specialist who executes the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of end-to-end business intelligence, analytics, governed data collection, and business process automation solutions within the Microsoft 365 and Power Platform ecosystem. The role requires deep proficiency in Power BI, including DAX, Power Query, semantic modeling, data integration, and production reporting, complemented by practical expertise in Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, and Microsoft 365 integrations.
Working closely with leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, the individual translates organizational requirements and collaboratively developed solution concepts into secure, reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions. The role extends beyond traditional dashboard development to include defining business processes where none exist, establishing governed data collection methods, integrating and validating data sources, automating workflows, and delivering actionable analytics and executive reporting.
This hands-on individual contributor role requires a self-directed senior technical practitioner capable of navigating ambiguity, exercising strong analytical thinking, sound technical judgment, and independent problem-solving, identifying cross-functional dependencies and data relationships, and taking ownership of solutions throughout their full lifecycle. The individual provides collaborative technical leadership rather than dedicated enterprise architecture or people management and communicates technical designs, analytical findings, risks, and recommendations credibly to business, technical, and executive audiences, including C-suite leadership. The role is accountable for improving organizational decision-making, operational visibility, process control, data quality, compliance, and technology value.
Key Responsibilities
Analytics, Dashboards, and Decision Support
• Personally design and build production Power BI dashboards, semantic models, interactive reports, scorecards, and executive views.
• Write, test, and optimize DAX measures, calculated columns, time-intelligence calculations, business rules, and KPI logic used for production reporting.
• Personally publish and maintain Power BI reports in workspaces and share or distribute them to end users; configure appropriate access, distribution, refresh, and delivery in accordance with organizational requirements.
• Develop, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot reports in cloud and on-premises Power BI environments, including Power BI Report Server.
Data Integration, Quality, and Modeling
• Use Power Query to connect, cleanse, transform, standardize, validate, and integrate structured and unstructured data from SharePoint, departmental repositories, and other approved sources.
• Design reusable data models, datasets, reporting structures, and repeatable processes for aggregation, reconciliation, metrics, and decision support.
• Validate data and calculations and apply analytical methods to identify trends, risks, exceptions, discrepancies, and actionable insights.
• Facilitate end-to-end process and data definition when established processes, data sources, or reporting structures do not exist.
• Work with stakeholders to define the business process, identify where and how data should be created and collected, establish data ownership and standards, map data through source and target systems, and develop repeatable structures that support governed reporting and analytics.
Business Process Automation
• Build, maintain, and troubleshoot Microsoft 365 and Power Platform workflows and automation using Power Automate, SharePoint, Teams, Lists, Forms, Planner, Excel, PowerPoint, and approved connectors. Apply business rules, validation, approvals, notifications, and error handling to collect data, route work, enforce process steps, and support downstream analytics.
Power Apps and Governed Data Collection
• Design, build, and maintain secure, user-friendly Power Apps and customized SharePoint forms that allow authorized users to create, review, correct, and update governed data without direct access to underlying systems. Apply validation, role-based permissions, error handling, user feedback, and audit controls to ensure accurate, secure, and traceable updates.
Solution Leadership, Governance, and Communication
• Work independently through ambiguity, establish technical objectives and solution approaches, and lead major initiatives through design, testing, deployment, adoption, support, and continuous improvement in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Identify cross-department interconnections and data correlations, demonstrate executive presence, and communicate technical designs, analytical findings, risks, limitations, and recommendations credibly to technical, business, and executive audiences, including C-suite leaders.
• Apply platform architecture, security, permissions, licensing, dependency, and governance requirements; troubleshoot data, refresh, calculation, workflow, and performance issues; and maintain documentation that supports reliable, governed, and maintainable solutions.
Must Have:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, or a related discipline.
• Nine or more years of progressive experience in data analytics, business intelligence, reporting development, information systems development, or closely related technical work.
Demonstrated hands-on experience delivering, deploying, and sustaining production analytics and Microsoft 365 and Power Platform solutions across the capabilities described above.
OR
Master’s degree and 7 years of progressive experience in a related technical or analytical discipline.
• Professional certification in Microsoft Power BI, Power Platform, data analytics, or related technical discipline.
