Summary
The Quality Engineer supports day-to-day quality assurance and continuous improvement activities at the assigned MBI brand/plant location, ensuring products meet Malibu Boats' quality, performance, and safety standards. This role partners with Production, Engineering, and Supplier Quality to identify, contain, and eliminate defects; supports new product introduction; and drives structured problem solving to reduce scrap, rework, and warranty cost.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Engineering & Problem Solving
- Analyze quality data (scrap, rework, DPU, warranty) to identify top defect drivers and lead root cause problem solving (8D, 5-Why, A3, Fishbone).
- Develop and maintain Criteria for Acceptance documents, control plans, and inspection standards for assigned product lines/stations.
- Lead containment and corrective action activities for in-process and field quality issues, verifying effectiveness.
In-Process & Incoming Quality
- Support and audit in-process inspection and layered process audits across assigned production areas.
- Partner with Supplier Quality on incoming material issues affecting the production line.
- Support material review board (MRB) and disposition of nonconforming material.
New Product Introduction
- Support new product/model launches by developing test and inspection methods, and participating in design and process reviews.
- Support APQP/PFMEA activities for new products and engineering changes as needed.
Continuous Improvement & Reporting
- Support the plant's COPQ reduction and continuous improvement priorities in partnership with the CI Site/Brand Lead.
- Maintain and report quality KPIs (FPY, DPU, scrap, rework hours) to plant and brand leadership.
- Participate in daily Gemba/tiered accountability meetings.
