Position Overview:

Jerry Pittman & Associates is seeking highly skilled 1st Class Pipe Welders to join our team in Newport News, VA. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with SMAW and GTAW welding processes and be capable of performing high-quality welds in all positions across a variety of materials and conditions.

Essential Skills & Responsibilities:

• Perform multi-pass, all-position fillet and butt welds using SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)

• Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper nickel pipe using SMAW and GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding)

• Execute mirror welding using both SMAW and GTAW

• Safely operate an oxygen/propane heating torch

• Work efficiently in physically demanding environments including shipboard, sub-assemblies, staging, and ladders

• Utilize fillet gauges, butt gauges, and a 6” scale accurately

• Follow and comply with OSHA regulations and shipyard safety standards

Welding Qualifications:

All candidates must be qualified in:

• SMAW and GTAW processes (all positions)

• Thin wall sockets (for joints below 0.187 wall thickness)

Applicants will undergo testing and training at the Welding School, including:

• Welders Vision Test

• Visual Inspection of Welds (Level I)

• Pre-heat and Interpass procedures

• Fire Watch CBT

• Torch Safety Test and Practical

• Welding Qualification Tests (codes 503, 502, 541, 725, 506, 659, 556, 650, 664, 557)
