Position Summary The Parts Manager is responsible for managing the dealership’s parts operations, ensuring the Service Department has the parts, technical resources, specialty tools, and vendor support necessary to operate efficiently. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate and healthy inventory, managing parts ordering and receiving, supporting technicians with parts identification and technical information, maintaining strong vendor relationships, and managing the profitability and efficiency of the Parts Department. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, mechanically minded, and able to work effectively with technicians, vendors, and dealership management in a fast-paced marine dealership environment. Key Responsibilities Manage Parts Ordering & Inventory Identify, source, and order parts and accessories. Maintain accurate inventory levels to ensure parts are available when needed. Monitor inventory levels and proactively identify stocking needs. Minimize excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory. Monitor inventory turns and make adjustments to stocking levels as needed. Maintain accurate parts pricing and margins. Ensure incoming parts are received accurately and promptly. Maintain an organized and efficient parts storage area. Coordinate special orders and backordered parts. Work closely with the Service Department to ensure required parts are available for scheduled and ongoing repairs. 2. Provide Technical Assistance to Technicians Assist technicians with identifying and sourcing the correct parts for repairs. Research OEM parts diagrams, catalogs, service information, and technical resources as needed. Help technicians identify alternative solutions when parts are unavailable or backordered. Assist with parts-related troubleshooting and product information. Maintain current knowledge of marine systems, manufacturers, and product updates. Serve as a resource between technicians, manufacturers, and parts suppliers when technical questions arise. 3. Maintain Specialty Tools & Software Maintain an accurate inventory of specialty tools required by the Service Department. Coordinate the purchase and replacement of specialty tools as needed. Maintain required manufacturer-specific tools and diagnostic equipment. Manage and maintain software licenses and subscriptions required by technicians. 4. Maintain Healthy Vendor Relationships Develop and maintain strong relationships with OEM manufacturers, parts suppliers, and other vendors. Communicate regularly with vendors regarding orders, backorders, returns, warranty parts, and product availability. Schedule and coordinate vendor and manufacturer training opportunities for Parts and Service personnel. Stay informed about new products, manufacturer updates, parts programs, and technical resources. Coordinate with sublet vendors to ensure timely completion of outsourced work. Help identify and establish relationships with additional vendors when needed. Qualifications Previous experience in parts, service, or inventory management; marine dealership experience preferred. Strong organizational and inventory management skills. Mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand marine parts and systems. Ability to research and identify parts using OEM catalogs, diagrams, and online resources. Strong computer skills and ability to learn dealership and manufacturer software. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively with technicians, vendors, and management. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, seasonal environment. Experience with inventory management and purchasing systems preferred. Marine industry or dealership experience strongly preferred. Success in This Position Success in the Parts Manager position will be measured by the Parts Department’s ability to consistently support the Service Department while maintaining healthy inventory and profitability. Key indicators of success include: Accurate and appropriately stocked inventory. Strong inventory turns and controlled obsolete inventory. Strong communication skills with department personnel Healthy Parts Department margins and profitability. Timely availability of parts for technicians. Technicians having the tools, software, and technical resources needed to work efficiently. Strong relationships with OEM and parts vendors. Effective management of sublet vendor relationships.
