Manual Machinist

Summary: The Manual Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating conventional machine tools, including manual milling machines and engine lathes, to fabricate, repair, and modify precision components used in manufacturing and maintenance operations. This position requires the ability to interpret blueprints, perform accurate measurements, and produce quality parts while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.   Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual machine tools, including Bridgeport mills, engine lathes, drill presses, and other conventional equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and work orders to manufacture parts to required specifications.
• Measure and inspect finished components using precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools.
• Machine metal and plastic materials by cutting, drilling, boring, threading, facing, and turning operations.
• Select appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining methods based on material type and job requirements.
• Maintain dimensional accuracy and quality standards while minimizing material waste.
• Perform basic equipment maintenance and keep machinery and work areas clean and organized.
• Collaborate with supervisors and other departments to prioritize work and resolve machining issues.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Assist with process improvements and support special projects as assigned.

  Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical machining training preferred.
• Experience operating manual milling machines (Bridgeport) and/or manual engine lathes preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
• Proficiency using precision measuring instruments, including calipers and micrometers.
• Basic knowledge of machining practices, tooling, and materials such as steel, aluminum, stainless steel, brass, and plastics.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Entry-level candidates with relevant trade school education and a strong willingness to learn may be considered.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements throughout the shift.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Work around moving mechanical equipment, metal chips, cutting fluids, and moderate noise levels.
• Wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toe footwear as required.
