We’re recruiting an experienced Marine Technician | BVI in Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands.

This is not a narrow specialist position. We are looking for a senior marine technician with broad practical experience who can diagnose problems, adapt to different situations and find practical solutions.

About the Role

Marine Technician | BVI

You’ll work on a diverse range of marine repair, maintenance and installation projects on sailing and power vessels.

The work can vary considerably and may include engine repowers, mechanical repairs, fabrication, electrical diagnostics, hydraulics and general marine systems.

What You’ll Be Working With

Marine Technician | BVI

⚙️ Mechanical

  • Marine engines and generators
  • Engine and transmission repairs and rebuilds
  • Diagnostics and fault finding
  • Engine installations and drivetrain alignment
  • Shafts, propellers and rudders
  • Hydraulic systems and repairs

⚡ Electrical & Electronics

  • Engine electronics and controls
  • Electrical diagnostics and repairs
  • Generator systems
  • Navigation systems
  • General onboard electrical and electronic systems

🔩 Fabrication & Marine Systems

  • Engine bed fabrication
  • General marine fabrication
  • Custom mechanical solutions
  • Lifting and removal logistics
  • General boat systems and equipment

🔧 Engine Repowers

Experience with complete repowers is highly relevant, including:

  • Engine and generator removal
  • Parts identification and procurement
  • Installation
  • Alignment
  • Final hookup and commissioning

Who are you?

Marine Technician | BVI

✔ Several years of senior level marine mechanical experience.

✔ Strong practical experience across multiple marine disciplines.

✔ Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting and problem solving skills.

✔ Comfortable working independently and taking responsibility for completing a job.

✔ Able to adapt when unexpected problems arise.

✔ Good spoken and written English. Comfortable communicating directly with customers and explaining technical work.

Certifications & Qualifications

Marine Technician | BVI

Practical Experience Comes First

Formal qualifications and professional certifications are an advantage, particularly for the BVI work permit process. However, we place greater importance on demonstrated practical experience than certificates alone.

Candidates with substantial hands on marine experience but fewer formal qualifications are encouraged to apply. Internationally recognised marine, mechanical, electrical or manufacturer qualifications are welcome.
