As an Ingalls Discrete Carpenter, you are part of a skilled team responsible for installing the permanent foundations, fixtures, and structures that support ship construction from the inside out. You will read blueprints, lay out exact placement for shipboard components, and install essential items such as ladders, tile, stanchions, deck sockets, staples, and other structural elements. Your craftsmanship ensures every component is installed accurately, safely, and to the highest standard — work that keeps our fleet mission‑ready. What You’ll Do • Install permanent structures aboard ships and other naval units. • Read blueprints and lay out precise locations for ladders, stanchions, deck sockets, tile, staples, and shipboard components. • Use a wide range of carpentry and fabrication tools, including hammers, squares, levels, grinders, saws, and pneumatic or motor‑powered tools. • Measure materials accurately using tape measures and layout tools. • Work in varied shipyard environments and support changing production needs. • Must be available to work any shift in a 24/7 manufacturing environment. What You Bring • Two years of experience in tile work, framing, cabinet building, trim carpentry, or similar craft • Ability to read blueprints and tape measurements • Skill using carpentry, layout, and finishing tools • Comfort working in complex shipyard environments • Strong commitment to safety, craftsmanship, and teamwork Preferred Qualifications • Two years of experience in a shipyard environment If you want a version geared toward entry-level candidates, a shorter job‑board format, or a more marketing‑focused variation, I can tailor it further.
