JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: CNC Burn Table / CNC Plasma / Laser Operator A Class
REPORTS TO: Shop Foreman / Production Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
Burn Table Operator (also known as a CNC Plasma, Laser, or Oxy-fuel Cutting Operator) is a skilled manufacturing professional responsible for setting up, programming, and operating heavy-duty CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines to cut metal plates and sheets according to precise specifications. This hands-on role requires strong blueprint reading skills, mechanical aptitude, and commitment. Messer cutting systems are highly advanced, combining plasma, oxy-fuel, and laser technologies.
RESPONSIBILITIES / AUTHORITIES
- Works with the Shop Foreman to conduct plasma and oxyfuel burning table and select materials that are required for each work order
- Set up plasma and oxyfuel burning table and select materials that are required for each work order
- Efficiently nest work orders for maximum production
- Manage all plate inventory, with respect to job charging materials and maintaining accurate inventory counts
- Always ensure quality production in addition to proper operation of equipment
- Maintain traceability in all jobs
- Mark materials and package parts
- Ensure quality and quantity standards are met on a daily/consistent basis
- Keep the work area clean and always organized
- Perform all daily/weekly/monthly maintenance on equipment
- Always comply with safety protocol
- Conducts facility safety inspections, audits and surveillances.
- Program, set up, and operate Messer CNC cutting machines to produce accurate metal components
- Load and unload heavy metal plates onto the cutting table using overhead cranes, hoists, or forklifts
- Adjust machine controls, including torch height, cutting speed, feed rate, gas pressures, and tip/nozzle sizes for plasma or oxy-fuel cutting
- Other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 5 years of experience operating CNC Messer burn table.
- 5+ years of manufacturing or shipyard safety experience.
- Basic math skills
- Proficiency in reading blueprints
- Proficiency in using measuring tools such as dial calipers, O.D and I.D. micrometers, bore gauges.
- Attention to detail.
- Familiarity with CNC programming software.
- Ability to work independently or with limited supervision.
- Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft products.
- Oral, written and interpersonal skills.
