Action Water Sports is looking to fill the position of Fiberglass Repair Technician at our award-winning Hudsonville location. Position Summary The Marine Fiberglass Technician is responsible for repairing, restoring, and refinishing fiberglass and gel coat surfaces on boats and marine accessories. This position requires hands-on experience in fiberglass repair, gel coat application, color matching, surface preparation, sanding, buffing, and finishing. The technician must be capable of removing and reinstalling marine hardware to properly complete repairs and restore the boats to our customers quality standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Inspect boats to assess fiberglass and gel coat damage. Perform fiberglass repairs including grinding, patching, laminating, and rebuilding damaged areas. Lay fiberglass matting and apply resin using proper repair techniques. Prepare repair surfaces through grinding, sanding, masking, and cleaning. Accurately color match gel coats to match the boats finish Spray gel coat and metallic finishes, including metal flake applications. Perform finish sanding, polishing, and buffing to achieve a factory-quality appearance. Remove and reinstall marine hardware, trim, accessories, and related components required to complete repairs. Repair cosmetic and structural fiberglass damage in accordance with industry standards. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all shop safety procedures. Properly use and maintain spray equipment, sanders, grinders, buffers, and other repair tools. Document completed work and communicate repair status with supervisors and team members. Assist with other marine service and repair tasks as assigned. Required Qualifications Minimum of one (1) year of experience performing fiberglass repairs on boats or marine vessels. Proven experience repairing fiberglass damage and restoring gel coat finishes. Experience spraying gel coat and metallic finishes, including metal flake applications. Experience with fiberglass grinding, laminating, patching, sanding, and buffing. Ability to remove and reinstall marine hardware necessary to complete repairs. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Valid driver’s license preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of marine fiberglass repair techniques and materials. Ability to accurately color match gel coats and marine finishes. Proficiency in spraying gel coat and applying metal flake finishes. Skilled in fiberglass matting installation and resin application. Ability to use grinders, sanders, buffers, spray guns, and other shop equipment safely and effectively. Knowledge of marine construction and component installation. Ability to read and follow repair procedures and manufacturer specifications. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to produce high-quality repairs while meeting productivity expectations. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to safely operate power tools and spraying equipment. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respirators and eye protection. Work Environment Primarily works in a marine service and repair facility. Regular exposure to fiberglass dust, chemicals, resins, solvents, and paint products. Must follow all safety procedures and environmental regulations regarding material handling and disposal. Experience Required: Minimum 1 year of marine fiberglass repair experience. Employment Type: Full-Time Reports To: Service Manager / Service Team Leader (as assigned) Hours: 40+ hours a week.
