The Banquet Captain is responsible for overseeing and executing all banquet and private events to ensure exceptional guest experiences and seamless event operations. This role serves as the primary lead during events, coordinating front-of-house service staff, communicating with the kitchen team, managing event setup and breakdown, and ensuring all details outlined in the Banquet Event Order (BEO) are executed accurately.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Event Preparation
· Attend event planning meetings with the Event Coordinator and management team to review upcoming events.
· Review event details, floor plans, menus, timelines, and Banquet Event Orders (BEOs).
· Ensure all event equipment, tables, chairs, linens, décor, and service items are clean, organized, and event ready.
Event Setup
· Direct the setup of tables, place settings, décor, and event spaces according to approved floor plans.
· Verify that all service stations are fully stocked and prepared.
· Conduct a final walkthrough with the Event Coordinator before guest arrival.
Event Execution
· Welcome guests and assist with seating and event flow.
· Coordinate timing of food and beverage service with the kitchen and bar teams.
· Lead and support servers, bartenders, runners, and bussers throughout service.
· Monitor guest satisfaction and promptly address service concerns.
· Maintain a clean, professional, and organized event environment.
· Ensure all banquet service standards are consistently met.
Event Closeout
· Review and finalize guest checks, ensuring accuracy against event estimates and contracts.
· Oversee event breakdown and room restoration according to venue standards.
· Ensure all event equipment is cleaned, organized, and returned to designated storage areas.
Leadership Responsibilities
· Lead banquet staff by example through professionalism and accountability.
· Train, coach, and develop banquet team members on service standards and hospitality expectations.
· Delegate responsibilities effectively and monitor staff performance.
· Maintain positive communication between front-of-house, kitchen, bar, and management teams.
· Resolve guest or operational issues quickly and professionally.

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
- Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training.
- Wear proper personal protective equipment as required for the task or work area.
- Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.
Technical and Physical Requirements
- Customer Service experience preferred
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to bend, stoop, lift, rotate, reach
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to move tables, chairs, and event equipment as needed
- Any skills considered standard that a Server should possess
